Red & Blue Mercs

Hi<br />A friend of mine is considering buying a boat with a 2001 90hp Merc. It has a red cowling. What is the difference a Merc with a blue cowling and one with a red. I was told that a red denotes fresh water and blue salt. Is this correct?<br /><br />Thanks

Go to their site.. <br />I think the blue cowling is a "Saltwater" series.<br />As I will never be able to afford one... Don't really know much about new stuff, but I'm sure they make a competitive product.

I am pretty sure that the blue is the saltwater series and red is the fresh water. Either can be 2 or 4 stroke or EFI or carburator.
