I ordered a manual and it is on it's way. In the meantime I can't find this info anywhere.

I am wondering what the red line is for a 94 Evinrude V-4 90 hp.

I just bought the boat and with the new prop I bought it is running at 6500 rpms.

That seems way too high to me. Anyone know where can find this??

I bet the tach is set on position 4. Check that first. It needs to be on position 6.

riden ,Dhadley is refering the the dial setting on the back of the tachometer. He's recommending that you insure that it is set to position 6.

Post what length and hull style boat this engine is pushing and the diameter and pitch prop you are currently running.Without this info ,it is impossible to advise.

edit: I see from your other thread that you are running a 19" pitch prop. Now if we know what the 90 hp and that prop is pushing ,we can pretty much determine whether you have a tach issue or a propping issue.

Sorry Riden, my bad! Ob's right on about the setting. The tach reads from the stator (alternator and what generates the inital voltage for spark) under the flywheel. It's not that uncommon for folks to set the tach on position 4 if they have a 4 cylinder motor. It should be on position 6 for a 12 pole, 6 pulse stator.

Stator???? This motor has a stator?? I didn't think it had a charging system?? I suppose that is a good thing though.

My boat is a 78 Lund fibreglass, 15.5 ft.

94 Evinrude V-4 90 hp

Now I called my Turning Point dealer and after talking he is sending me a 21 pitch prop. I did Michigan Wheel's prop selector and it recommended a 21 pitch.

I will have a look at my tach tomorrow and see it it has settings. They are behind it right??

Yes, the tach setting switch is in the back.
