red primer knob for electric solonoid 1997 50 HP Electric Start

Found the service valve(the red knob on the solonoid) to be cracked. When I prime to start fuel would shoot out even though it was a hairline crack. Would this affect the idle? Would air be sucked through ? Could not get a smooth consistant idle by messing with the air/fuel adjustment but seems to have gotten much better after the service valve was replaced.

If the valve was leaking internally, the fuel pump pressure would be bypassing it, and yes that certainly would affect idle
