there is a red wire (14-16 gage) with an inline fuse that connects to the starter selenoid. can someone tell me what's it for?

Shouldn't be one like that on the solenoid. Follow the wire, what does it go to?

good evening

the red wire is spliced to the red/blk stripe wire that leads to the mercanthone.

The Mercathode should have been hooked directly to the battery, not the starter. That way if you have a battery switch and shut it off, it doesn't stop the Mercathode from working.
