Current system is a non working electric system. Bearing went out a few weeks ago and almost lost a wheel. Today actually lost a wheel after a different bearing failure..... luckily the boat wasn't on it. I was trying to limp home so it wasn't on I-5 or something.

Seems like to common sense to NOT have electric brakes on a boat trailer........ but whatever.

What other options are there?

My boat weighs about 4,000 lbs dry.

Truck for now is a 99 F150 7700. Towed it a good 150 miles total with significant issues. That said, its coming into summer and hasn't been really tested going long distance.

Don't have a ton of money right now. My thought was end up with a disc brake system on some sort, and buy the rotors/hubs now, just to get the wheels back on and have an operational trailer. Not in a huge hurry here, boat is moored.

Probably going to redo the whole damn trailer so its pretty again with new lights and whatnot. But first is brakes.

What type of water? Salt or fresh and how much will you be using the trailer and how much distance will you be towing will determine what brand of brakes to buy. What ever it is i think it should be disc brakes. The better is Kodiak. Now comes what type of material for rotors.I see your sig says PNW but you could be in nothing but fresh water on a lake.

Re: Redoing brake system

Dont have a solid answer here. Both for sure, dont know how much of each. Ideally boat with be moored in fresh water like it is now(lake union) for summmer and put away for winter. Want o go to the san juans though, so there will be some salt.

Distance is also unknown. Dunno how capable my tow vehicle is. I want a new truck. If that happens the trailer will need to be capable of going over the pass with a pretty steep grade and a few hundred miles without an issue
