I'm redoing a 14ft gruman fishing boat.Got the trailer done now it's time for the boat.Going to take the floors out this weekend and actually see what i got.I don't think the boat has any leaks,it's had standing water in it twice since i got it and no water drips. But just to be on the safe side i want to know what to coat the inside of the hull with, and places to get it,it's an aluminum boat. Also how to replace the foam, may take the old out, inspect and replace.I'll put pics up when able. Thanks

Re: Redoing gruman

This is often why it's better to have a resto thread for the project, in it's entirety, rather then several smaller threads dealing w/ the various parts & pieces of a project that usually end up asking the same questions:
Where do you find the expanding urethane foam.

US Composites, and other online suppliers, 2lb should be sufficient for your needs. Use a rough estimate of 60lbs of flotation 'value' per cubic foot of foam. A 600lb boat needs 10CF of foam, calculated in ideal conditions w/ optimal foam expansion.

What about the expanding foam i've read about.

What about it?

It may be better to install some cut and fit type foam floatation rather than the pour-in expandable type so later you can have easy access to those rivets on the inside for repairs or replacement....at a later time....good luck!
