I have a question about the new reed gaskets having a sticky side but the old ones did not. Which side does the sticky side go. I guess reed cage side but would not like to guess.

Just installed some Cris Carson reeds and after lapping the cages flat and installing the new reeds they are not flat. I think it was from the zip ties used in packing being too tight but if anyone has noticed if they relax to a flat state after a few days let me know please. Each finger looks twisted a little looking at the end.

Thanks again for putting up with rookie questions. 84 100hp evinrude.

The sticky side of the gasket goes on the reed cage. Lay the reeds out in the sun to warm up and see if they go back to being flat. If not, call Chris Carson and explain the problem.

Use a small drop of blue loctite on each screw. Tighten til you feel resistance, over tightening will make the reeds stand up. Do not use the shims.

I put a set of Chris Carson reeds on my '96 88spl. Nice performance increase.

Just call Chris, he'll walk you through it. If you don't already know him and just ordered off the site, you'll find he's one of the nicest guys in the business and will do everything he can to help you out.
