Doing reeds on my 1986 v4 crossflow. There is a very thin narrow metal strip on only one side of each reed block that goes between the reed pedal plate and the reed stop. I'm wondering out of curiosity what it is since it's only on one side. Especially since it does not show up on any part diagrams that I have seen, TIA.

That should be the reed (sometimes "reed petals" in motors with reeds shaped like flowers -- '50s 10hp, for example). You should have one on each side. A "problem with reeds" usually means that part of the reed is broken off, or the thin reed will not lay flat. Guessing, but you might find the stub of a broken reed on the side where one is missing.

I believe that thin metal strip is called a ----SHIM-----As per a factory manual.

Any idea why it's only used on one side of each reed block?
When I search ship it shows up but like I said it doesn't show in diagrams.

It is called a reed clamp. it is not sold separate on Junkrude motors ..only as a assembly.
