Hi!
I got a 1979 80hp mercury. Is there any way to check the reed valve without dissassembling the whole powerhead?

Just bought the engine and going over it during winter but dont want to do more than I need. Wil check the compression and if it looks good i will not rebuild it. But still, how to check reed...

Motor is going quite well, always start, both warm and coold. Only two things inoticed driving:
1. at full speed with little amount of gas in thank it starts to hesitate and stall a little (time to rebuild gas pump?).
2. On half trottle it seems to be little on the rich side.

Any ideas will be appriciated!

/Bjornis

Re: Reed valve check?

A reed that is bad will slober fuel out of the carb throat at ilde and the engine won't run on that cyl at idle dont sound like you have that problem, ck your throttle pick up for the intermidete rich problem--bob
