I have a 1983 Johnson 4hp 2 cyl two stroke and have it in pieces - my question is are the four reed valves suppose to sit flat all the way closed when the motor is not running? All four are up slightly when I look at the valve plate.
Hm.m.m.m, that begs another question. Where did the crap come from? That should be probably the cleanest part of the engine. Let's hope there are not other problems in there.
