I have a small 1990 model bass boat and the gel coat is pretty well gone. If I run my hand over the surface it feels like sandpaper.I assume that it is the metal flake that I am feeling. Do I have any options that are fairly inexpensive, or am I stuck until I can afford the boat upgrade?

Re: Refinish options

Welcome to the club ..I have a Baja Sunsport with what sounds like the same disease. I have posted before ..that I have sanded with up to 2000 grit wet or dry and used 2 more products that were ever invented for polishing. It will improve somewhat but in the sun it looks awful. My early spring project is to spray Imron clearcoat over it.

Re: Refinish options

That is what I was afraid of. I thought my options were pretty slim. I would like to improve the looks but I don't have the equipment or space for a good spray solution to the problem. I appreciate your input.

It is silver flakes in black paint. The problem is mostly the top of the sides around the boat, the vertical walls are still glossy.

Just curious, why does the flake color make a difference?
