I've got a 93 Chaparral 2550 SX cuddy that I wish had a fridge. I've seen pictures of other boats for sale of the same model on the internet with a fridge in the galley.

So what kind of power does it take to run one of these things. A generator isn't really an option. I was thinking of taking a page from the RV world and running a pair of 6V golf cart batteries that would give 225 AH. (but they'd weigh 126 lbs for the pair. would that give at least 24 hrs run time?

Thanks
-Nate

Re: Refrigerator install

No need to have a generator. The marine fridges can be run from 12 volts. Power consumption is modest at 2 to 3 amps typically. You can easily run them overnight from a standard battery. Golf cart batteries should easily work.

BTW, once cold, the fridge stays that way if you don't open the door. We would often turn off the fridge overnight while at anchor to save power and everything was still cool in the morning.

Amir
