Hello Everyone!
BOAT INFO:
I recently have been restoring an old Terry 1978 4.7m(15'6") bassboat. Split halves new deck, stringers, billage area, and transom, etc.... aside from the Itching for a first experience alot of fun. Now before I put the halves back together..
MY MAIN QUESTION: What would be the best way to regel/paint the following boat. Within a limited budget. The Cheaper the better but done right within reason. And somthing that will last 4 or 5 years or so?
Top Half: has a peeling topcoat exposing the metalflake. It is worn well into the blue metalflake where the flakes are disattaching and loosing there color Basicly its shot. This top half isn't much, It's a 5" rim around the boat with the dash and motorwell molded in. It will need regelling or repainting. Originally I was planning on regelling dark base then clear w/blue micro flake then cleargelling a few more coats but then reality hit and figured it would be be much easier to do that with a 2 part poly, then reality hit again
and realized that I've never really thought the sparkles were that great to begin with! So solidcolor possibly a metallic but really dont want to spend the time or money to have the discoflake back.
Bottom Hull Half: The outside is mainly just an old light cremewhite gel hull. There is a blue stripe in the rear of each side where there is the same metalflake problem as the tophalf. and the white gelcoat throughout the hull has scratches and nicks here and there that I will be filling. the blue stripe i would like to gel or paint over white as well. If possible repaint or gel the whole hull. give the whole boat a newer look.
The boat only will see fresh water, 1-2 times a week for lake fishing, and will be covered and stored in a carport the rest of the time.
I was looking into rustoleum marine primer and topcoat (might not be the best but does have uv protection and would be cheap to touch up). also looking into the interlux perfection and primecoat, DuPont Imron, and as well white gelcoat.
Another Question I've seen people use the interlux perfection as a hull coat but is an above the waterline paint will it work in fresh water? as long as its not stored there?
And again I do appreciate the advice. I also appreciate all the posts on the forum which helped me this far on the boat.
I will try to get some pics up of some of the boat and restore soon. but hopefully described it enough.
Thanks again!
