Registering a boat without a title

I bought a small sailboat used from a local marina. I had only planned to sail, and since NY only requires a registration for motorized boats, I didn’t worry about not having the title. I know it was legit - the seller was a club member and the original owner, had registered the boat, and confirmed he had lost the title. Fast forward a few years - the seller is much older and not in touch, and I’d like to use a motor with the boat occasionally. Anyone know how to register in NY state without the title? The manufacturer has gone out of business, the boat was made in the late 60s/early 70s. Thanks!!

As long as it has a serial number. You need to use MV 51 and MV 51B forms, and have a photo of the serial number
