Regulator sticky question

I have a 150 hp Force that I did the regulatr conversion desribed in the sticky to. After completing it. I turned the key on and my ignition 25 amp fuse blew immediately. I then did some troubleshooting and found that since my boat does not have a rpm gague that wire was connected to the ignition switch. Also, this was my problem of shorting out the circuit. After removing the wire problem solved. However, with the rectifier this was never a problem. So I am wondering if the regulator is going to pose additional problems for me. Any ideas would be great.

If you don't have a tach the lead shouldn't be connected to anything. It should be taped off and secured out of the way.

That was also my original thought. I was surprised to see it attached to the ignition switch. But why with the rectifier was this not a problem?

Re: Regulator sticky question

A regulator is a rectifier plus a transistorized voltage shunt. A regulator should always deliver less power than a rectifier in the same circuit.

Which is to say that your regulator should not have blown that fuse no matter what deivices you do or don't have. Something was probably wired wrong or you had a defective regulator.
