Remove the top of the air silencer cover and watch the choke plate action when you pull the knob.

Most likely the plate will not close fully or the spring broke making it open slightly when you pull the rope.

Also make sure that you advance the throttle to the start position. It will not start easily if the throttle is closed.

dear seahorse, thank you for you quick response. i checked the butterfly on the the choke, and its closes fine. i am running the engine on remotes, and its new to me. i think the main problem is knowing how much throttle to use on starting as there are no guide lines on the remotes. hoefully i will get the hang of it.thanks again. best wishes, cc

Every engine is different, but most do better when choked with very little throttle. Try just moving the throttle control just a little above idle next time you try to start the engine cold. If it doesn't fire, move it just a little more and try again.

Once you find the magical position, mark it on your control.

thank you catransplant.i have been trying this with limited success, it seams to only start with high revs, but im sure its only a question of finding right mixture of choke and throttle. thanks again.cc
