My Yamaha T9.9 runs ok except it is reluctant to start. I have to remove the
cover and goose the accelerator linkage to start it.

Re: Reluctant starting

Could be a million different things.
If giving a bit more gas helps then it's probably not getting enough gas right at start-up.
You should be able to use the accelerator in neutral, sometimes you pull out on the gas handle, or there could be a separate "neutral accelerator"...not used to that small engines...sorry. :(

There is probably a choke somewhere too - you can try that as well.

This is assuming it starts when you give it some more gas.
Does it need to get the same amount of goosing for a while to run steady - and then runs normal once it's warm?

I think it's pretty common you need an extra splash of fuel when starting cold, all normal.
You just need to find an easier way of providing it.

Re: Reluctant starting

It seems to run without additional assistance after goosing the throtle for about
a minute. In the 80 plus temperatures in the Midwest, the engine should not need much help to get running.

I now suspect the Yamaha 'prime start' system, which acts in place of a choke.
I made the mistake of disassembling it while cleaning the carb. It does not have
many components. Just a needle, spring, and cover. I have been looking all over for a blow up diagram of it's insides. Yamaha does not sell these components individually, and the parts diagram for the carb only shows the unit
closed up. My thought is that the needle is jammed in it's seat, effectively shutting off the flow of fuel from the enhancement supply. I will try and remove
the needle completely and if the engine starts, I know that was the problem.
