Re: remembered the plug, but..........

Has anyone ever actually witnessed a plug that fell out from the outside?

I've never even heard of it. I see no way anything other than a Navy Seal in scuba gear is going to get my "outie" out of my hull. It would be a royal pain to intall from the inside, especially with water running in. No thanks, I'll keep mine outside. And I do have a spare readily available in the splashwell anyway, though I'll never need it for the main plug. By the way, I use an expanding rubber plug with a T handled screw, not a lever cam. Only thing better is a threaded plug. I would be fearful too if I was using a lever cam type plug. I can't figure out why those things are even sold.

Classic Silverlines

Edit: Hey, How did I manage a double post when editing the first time? Must have gone back to the old window in memory? Oops! Sorry!

One of the things I love about my McKee Craft, it floats almost as good without the plug as with it. On a recent fishing trip my son said we forgot the plug, he installed it, on the outside, there is noaccess on the inside. The bilge pump ran for a minute or so.

If your going to blame someone....blame Mom and Dad. There the ones that got together that got you here so you could get into this mess in the first place. :D

All the boats I've been on had the plug inserted from the inside and I've never been able to figure out what kind of 'logic' makes people build boats where the plug is not accessable from the inside. [/QB]
Sort of depends,,,,,,

On lots of I/O's, and cabin cruisers, you'd have to have a arm about 6' to 12' long to be able to reach a plug from the inside.

The suction pressure on a 'outtie' is next to nothing as far as trying to pull it out. And they sure are handy to reach.

On my 1968 issue I/O, it only has a 120hp 4cyl. Chevy, and the floor is about 6" up from the hull. But its all I can do while laying flat on the floor, and straining to make my arm about 3 inches longer than it is to reach the plug from inside the boat.

Don't forget about The Nasty, Costly Prank. Of course that was intentional.

I've heard of one case of the plug coming out; they suspected a treetop or stump or something caught in the lever ring and pulled it out. Personally I think it was a big 'ol revenge-minded bass. ;)

Mine is readily accessible from the inside, but one of my spares is the t-screw type. I think the previous owner must have launched plugless a few times, judging by the number of spare plugs stowed in various locations in my boat. :)

If we're going to blame someone, blame the boat manufacturers for building boats with holes in them that require plugs in the first place!

Oh wait.....
