Hi, on my 1991 9.9 remote engine, the carb cam follower was wraped by a clear plastic sleeve, and yesterday, the sleeve broke leaving only the black roller, now the link/sync is desynchrinised, my question is, can I re-synchronise without, that ring/sleeve, or I need a new $25 roller cam follower? That part seems different on that specific remote 9.9 engine, I have another 1991 9.9 tiller and no clear sleeve on the roller, any idea why?

Just be sure they have the same outer diameter. I have seen both versions.

I would think that if you reset the timing plate cam to match the carb arm roller, that the diameter would be of little insignificance

It will alter the advance curve versus carb opening. Engine will be out of synch.

I agree with the machinist. As long as the roller is touching the cam at idle, the advance curve will be the same as it
was with the clear sleeve on it.

Get a small piece of clear plastic hose with the same outside diameter and glue it on.
