Re: Remote box?

There's different types of control boxes. Could you post a pic of what you have?? Need more info.

First, make sure the neutral speed lever is locked. The control will not shift otherwise.

Did the control shift ok prior to rigging it? If so, check your motor.

Remove the controls from the motor then try. If it still won't shift, try removing the cables from the control.

These controls are very easy to take apart by removing three screws. Be careful when removing the cover so as not to lose any samall parts. Have a parts diagram handy, just in case.

If the remote turns out to be broken, I have one that I will sell at a reasonable price. I also have 12' and 24' cables to go with it.

What do you mean by "no sense of volts to the engine"? The control doesn't supply any voltage to the engine.

Rightyo il have a fiddle the remotes arent hooked up to the motor anyway. As for the volts i just mean the engine wont make any movement or sign of volts getting to it, i wire it to a battery and turn the key but nothing happens.

Re: Remote box?

Try starting the motor with a remote starter switch. You can make one yourself or buy one at an auto parts store. They're not expensive. Just hook it and the battery up to the starter as per directions. Use it as if your are doing compressions tests. Remove all the spark plugs, make sure the motor is in neutral, and press the switch.

If that works then either your remote wiring is bad or it was hooked up incorrectly. There are any number of things that could keep it from working properly and they are fairly easy to service. Get a factory service manual, which is worth its weight in gold, and a multimeter. There is an entire chapter devoted to testing and servicing the remote. A word of caution is in order. Many times, a motor and remote are not original to each other. Make sure that your particular remote is the same as is in the service manual. The same remote may be used in a wide range of years and models. I know for a fact that the remote in a 1990 120hp-300hp service manual is basically the same as yours.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Re: Remote box?

Looking at your box a little closer, it is not the same as a 1990 box. Do some research to find out which box you have. Sorry.
