So heres my issue, Before it would work intermittently and now after changing the cables for the throttle and shifter it won't do anything. I need to mess with this when i get home but could this seriously be the problem with my ignition!! Before I replaced the cables I installed a new key/ignition and it wouldn't work when it was up all the way. so does anyone have any idea on how its supposed to be set or just mess with it until it starts lol

66Niagara like racerone said , he can help if he knows what u have and exactly what youve done to fix the problem. however most the ones ive seen have a neutral switch either in control box or on motor linkage that would prevent starting unless in neutral cables could be out of adjustment. good luck :joyous:

I have a Johnson 1973 50ESL73R, with a power shift II box, I have tried multiple things to fix it. I replaced the ignition cause the key broke off. I also replaced the cables cause they were gone. After replacing the ignition it would start if the throttle position (Warn Up) lever was not up all the way. if you put it down it would be fine. Now after replacing the cables I get nothing no matter what the lever is at. When turning the key I get power to everywhere except for the starter solenoid. So I replaced the state solenoid and tried again and nothing checked the battery it was at 95%. I checked the neutral safety switch with a multi meter and the ignition but everything looks good. The question is how can I bypass the neutral safety switch so I can see if it starts. also I have jumped the starter and it it cranks so I know its not that.. so the question is what is it in the box thats screwing with me! lol there sorry about that! Also I read in a forum here that the warm up link set screw is messing with stuff for other people with the same thing so I was wondering if thats what it is!

The parts book shows another safety switch on the motor block near the throttle arm.---White wire I believe.-----If equipped with that then you take the white wire off and hold it to ground and see if it will crank over.

That is exactly what it was! I figured it out when I got home after going through some other posts and then I just read your post! So The problem is when I lift the warm up lever it initiated that safer switch so now I need to adjust it accordingly so that it does not do that when I lift the warm up lever.. How do I do that?
