Remote Control Handle for 70H Nissan NS70C

I have a 2001 NS70C Nissan Outboard. Saturday morning it greeted us while pulling away from the dock with a high pitched sustained beep from the handle when in gear. The sound was like my buddy's fuel injected 4 stroke makes when you turn the key to the on position to prime the motor. Forward or reverse, all day it made that noise like some kind of warning alarm. It is not electronically fuel injected. The motor did not overheat and shows no signs of any issues. The sound emanated from inside the control handle which has never made that sound before.

Any advice? Thanks.

You're kidding, right? You drove around all day with the alarm sounding? See your owner's manual. http://www.nissanmarine.com/tech_talk/owners_manuals.html Pay particular attention to p.62. Do not continue running with an alarm. That's as foolish as driving a car with the oil light on.

Oil was low. Lucky I didn't tear anything up. I've had problems with that handle before and assumed this was another glitch.
