remote control warning horn replacement

1987 Johnson 60hp.(4wire vro)

My warning horn doesn't work and I did disconnect the tan wire and ground it to confirm it isn't working. I'm looking at two options. One is to open the Remote control and replace the stock warning horn (PN 0389263 at $70-$80. Everything else works in the remote)

The other possible option is using the warning horn (PN 0176360) that was mounted in the console when I bought the boat . The 60hp is a replacement motor that included the remote. Looking at the wiring diagram it appears I would need to run a new "tan" wire from the motor to the console if I don't want to open the remote. I can draw the switched 12v (purple) from the instrument board in the console.

Any known incompatibility issues with using the later model horn on older motors?

A 4 wire VRO pump is the newer kind. Your boat would have originally had a 3 wire VRO pump. What alarm(s) are you missing?

None of the alarms are working VRO or Temp warning. Grounding the tan wire doesn't sound the alarm.

The 0176360 alarm worked out fine.
