Re: Remote oil tank question

Where is the remote tank oil filter? The parts explosion shows a "strainer" inline with one of the tank oil lines (maybe a second one also - the number on the explosion has no part listed). There is also a "strainer" in the engine-mounted tank.

Are these the things that need to be replaced?

(1993 225 - but I assume the remote tank is the same).

Re: Remote oil tank question

the filter in the remote tank is once per year or 200 hours. the engine oil tank strainer is the same. to service the engine strainer drain it first. keeps any trash on the bottom from falling down the pump pickup tube. recover and discard the seal at the end of the filter. when reassembling make sure a NEW seal is used and the filter is placed correctly on the level sender. if its not it may pop the sender out of the tank when the oil transfer fails to shut off. a copy of the 02 marine tech guide(i think) has the procedure the 05 tech guide has it in detail between pages 2-41 and 2-48. I reccomend ya get one.
part #LIT-18865-01-05

So the filter on the remote tank is the "strainer" shown connected to hoses with tie-wraps? Are there one or two (on the remote tank)?

Parts explosion diagram is a little vague.

Re: Remote oil tank question

I have just changed my filter (strainer) on the remote tank. As the parts explosion shows, it sits below the pump at the back of the remote tank and is pushed onto each pipe and held there with tie-wraps. The parts list call it strainer 1. Easy to replace although hardest part of the job has getting the tank out! It cost $17 AUD (expensive for such a small thumb size filter!) Strainer 1 part number is 646-24251-02-00 and 2 X clamps 90465-11M10-00
