I just put new cables on my 1963 Johnson 40hp. There weren't any real instructions with the cables, just which end is which.

Now I have a problem. The throttle cable doesn't seem to have enough stroke to get all three positions(F-N-R). It can get any two, but won't quite get the third. I've adjusted the nut full forward to full back, and all points in between. It's got to be something really simple that I'm missing.

All the teleflex install info I can find is related to the hydraulic version, not simple push/pull. - probably because it should be so simple.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Re: Remote shift connection on '63 OMC 40hp

you first disconnect the cable. put the motor in neutral, place the control in neutral. no you adjust the nut, so that you can connect the end to the motor with out moving the motor connect, then put the turnion nut, in it holder, the cable has to meet the motor, not the motor meet the cable. if you have the cables, that you put the adapter on the cable you may have too much of the cable push thru the end of the adapter.

Boy TD, you're fast.

I'll try it your way and see what happens. I don't have the kind with the adapter, so hopefully this will fix my problem.

Thanks.
