Re: remote starter

I bought a boat side harness and key switch with the Systems Check (1996 up) ends, and then I bought one of those cable adapters to handle the big red plug style. All off of ebay. Now I can remote start a ton of OMC motors.

CDI makes a remote key start box, but I don't know how much it is.

You can't really hurt your powerpack, UNLESS you accidentally short +12v to the black/yellow kill wire. If you keep that kill wire protected, you will be OK.

Re: remote starter

If you just want to turn the motor over to check compressions and sparks a simple toggle switch with two wires and alligator clips will do the job.
Connect one to the battery pos at the starter solenoid and the other to the switched live side of the starter sol. Throw the switch and the motor will turn over.

Re: remote starter

No, you are not powering the starter directly from the remote starter sw, you are powering the solenoid to do the heavy switching. The remote sw is connected to a continuos 12v source with one lead and the other goes to the small 12v switched post on the solenoid. When the remote starter sw is pressed, the solenoid changes from open to closed, providing 12 VDC to the starter @ high amperage.

The remote starter sw is only able to switch a few amps, the starter draws well over 50 amps when cranking.
