remote tilt switch issues

I put a tilt switch at the motor, i ran a hot wire to switch center 1 side to green the other to the blue.
when i hit the witch nothing happens, what did i do wrong it bypassed the solenoids.

You probbly burnt up the switch that you put in if you by passed the selinods. Most switches are only good for 20 amps or less, and that is why the selinoids are in the wireing. When the trim motor is running it will usally pull alot more than 20 amps. The switch has to go to the selinoids. JMO

The remote trim is red for power input, blue with white stripe for up solenoid control wire and green with white for down. These wires go to the small terminals on the solenoid, not the large (10 ga.) that handle the actual motor drive.

To put a switch at the engine just parallel the existing blue and green striped wires getting 12v from whereever you wish for the center terminal.
Did you connect your new wires to the large terminals with the large solid wires? One of them was black and ground. Red is the main power input and it comes from a terminal on the starter solenoid.

I guess I won't say I put a hot line to the 10gauge wires
Nothing happened, then I reread the reply then hooked my
Test light to the battery an touched the green w/white nothing
So then I tried the blue same thing nothing

Since you use a test light rather than a multimeter, hook it to the center wire of the switch and verify voltage. If ok, move over to one of the outside terminals of the switch and with the switch toggled in that direction, verify that you have voltage. If you don't the switch is bad. If you do, go to the connection at the end of the blue or green striped wire and put your light there and toggle the switch. If you have no light the wire connection is bad. If good, go back to your control switch on your remote and ensure that you can run the trim up and down indicating that the system is still working ok.

Late model trim systems using the small square relays have a Normally Open (NO contact and a Normally Closed (NC) contact.

The trim motor is wired using both contacts, the motor Ground is connected to the NC so when either relay triggers to the NO and powers the motor the current path returns to ground thru the other relay and the motor runs.

You cannot power one side of the motor and not have the other side grounded, the motor will not run. As such the switch you wired will not work.

Take your wires and connect to the trigger wires of each relay, so when you hit your switch a relay will trigger. You might tap into the existing trim switch wiring on the motor.

Add a fuse to the hot wire feeding your switch.

Ah ha now that makes sense, well no it don't now that I drew it out how can I get 1 side to go up or down if I'm running
Power to both sides?

The switch I put in is at the motor its a seasence on/off/on
ON/OFF/ON EASY TOUCH SWITCH - seasense

With my test light I have power on both poles when I flip my switch to eaither side

The two trim relays are triggered by the blue/white and the Green/white.

Wire the two sides of your switch one to the B/W and the other to the G/W.

When you hit your switch only one of the relays should trigger and raise or lower the trim.

If you have your switch wired to the SOLID Blue and the SOLID Green, then you are reading voltage supplied to one side from the switch and voltage RETURNING thru the trim motor, with NO GROUND the motor will not run.

The Black wire is simply a motor casing ground, it never sees any voltage. The motor is actually only two wires, Blue and Green, with permanent magnets the motor armature will happily run either direction depending on which wire is + and the OTHER wire -. Reverse the connections and the motor runs the other direction.

You much rather use the relays to run the motor, this way the major current flow is carried by the heavier wires, the trigger wires only carry a small current so they are less likely to heat up and cause a fire if anything seriously goes wrong.
