Remote Trim Switch?

I would like to hook up a switch so I can trim my Volvo SX outdrive remotely. The switch would be mounted in the port corner of my swim platform.

It looks like a spring loaded SPDT Momentary switch is what I need, would this switch and boot work? Switch Boot

My trim pump will be just below the switch, I assume all I need to do is run the three wires from the pump in parallel to the switch? Any advice on what color coding will be used? What gauge of wire is adequate for a 3ft run, 16ga or do I need larger?

Thanks for all advice.

Re: Remote Trim Switch?

Thanks for the link Bruce, where I want to mount the switch is a pretty small area. I think the bat switch will fit better and its also much cheaper.

Wouldn't splicing into the wires to the pump work like I mentioned work as well?

Splicing in will work as well. That is what i am going to be doing. I would suggest a push button switch like the Volvo one. There are small ones available. You don't want someone stepping on the switch activating it. God forbid someone had there hands or legs near the drive while in the water and someone's foot caught the switch and crushed something...food for thought.

Here is another one if the cost is the issue:

That was one of the upsides to the yamaha L4 stern drive. It had a remote switch for the leg so you didn't have to hop in and out to move the leg.

Bruce: Good point about the switch type.

I sent a message to the seller and he responded that he would not recommend the switch I linked to for continuous rain. He suggested this Switch

Its about the same price but would require a square hole to be cut instead of just a small round one. The last one you linked to would be easier to mount, wish they had a better picture of it.

First, that switch and boot will not work. The boot only seals the topside of the switch, but being on a swim platform, you can bet that switch will get dunked over and over again, and water will get into the back of the switch...

I used a spring loaded, three way rocker switch form Napa. It was rated for a marine application and is waterproof. I wounted it in my outboard... I suggest you either get one like this from Napa or use the one that timdan94 suggested...

The swim platform is integrated so no water would get to the back of the switch. The backside of the switch would be just a bit lower than the top of the gunwales inside the hull. I agree the switch that Bruce and timdan94 provided looks good and isn't expensive.
