Removal of lower unit

I have a 1976 55hp johnson motor and trying to remove the lower unit i have it dropped but cant figure out how to disconnect the rod so i can remove the lower unit to change the water pump any help on disconnecting the rod so i can take the lower unit off would help thank you very much

There's a pin that goes thru the shift rod.It's at the powerhead,under the carbs,on the port side.<br /><br />Normally I'd suggest a factory manual,but that maybe hard to find.How good aftermarket books are,I don't know.<br /><br />If you go on Johnson.com,and look around abit,you can at least find a parts book that shows the linkage.<br /><br />DHP
