Hi,

I am in the process of stripping and rebuilding a Mariner 40HP, two cylinder (6E95007536).

I have removed all 8 of the engine mounting bolts and still the motor won`t budge. Are there any other bolts I have missed that could be holding it tightly in place, or perhaps are the gaskets holding it.

Has anyone out there had this problem before with this type of outboard?

I'm assuming by engine bolts that you mean the powerhead mounting bolts? Are you removing the powerhead from the motor or the motor from the boat?

If you are confident you have removed all the fasteners then maybe the splined driveshaft is seized in the powerhead. Fairly common with saltwater engines from what I've read.

If your pulling the power head off for rebuild then I assume you have a manual. Take a second look around and make sure you have every nut removed from the studs that hold the power head to the mid section. If your sure you have them all then gently, like a bear, try to rock the power head from side to side and fore and aft. If it won't budge then sharpen a 1" putty knife and gently tap it in between the power head and the adapter plate. You have to use your senses when you do this. You don't want to just go banging it in, work it in slowly. If the power head is completely disconnected it should begin to slowly seperate.

Once its started you can use your lift to put a little tension on it and go back to rocking it. It will come off, some are just really stuborn about it.
