What is the best way to remove the residue from outdoor carpeting. I have ripped up the carpet, and scraped off the backing that was still attached to the concrete.
There is still some residue on the concrete from the backing, along with the adhesive.

My plan right now is to use a wire wheel on a grinder to mechanically remove as much of the adhesive as possible. I was able to remove a good amount of it using a little elbow grease and a hand wire brush.

Does this sound like a good plan, or does anyone know an easier method? I don't really want to use chemicals as this is an outdoor patio, and there is landscaping in close proximity.

Don't know how big of an area that you need to do but you could kiss it with a DA sander after you've scraped up anything that a flat bladed scraper will get. Use 60 grit and wear a mask.

You can get a 6"bladed shaper with replaceable blades and adjustable handle that will make quick work of get the bulk of the old dried glue. If you wants to make the surface look good you will need to cover or coat the concrete with something, possibly more rug or paint. I don't know that you can't somehow get all the remnants of the old rug adhesive out but I doubt it can be done easily. Chief

I'm thinking rent one of those floor buffers and put an abrasive pad on it to get the adhesive off....

Have you tried a pressure washer? It'll get all the nooks and crannies...

This reminds,a coluple years ago 2 men pulled the old carpet out of there house and was wanting to get the glue up,they came up with the bright idea of using gas,it worked for a little while until the pilot lite to stove blew them up.

What are you going to put back down if anything?
