removal of shift rod bushing

Hey guys,I wana remove the shift rod bushing for a 76 20hp. evinrude but don't have the special tool (304515) to remove it.Any tricks or do I have to replace it.

I think it's the same as the earlier 18's where you can make a tool. Get a 5/16" metal rod and grind the end (bevel) it down to 1/4". Then tap it down from the opposite side and it will pop right out... Search on this forum and you fill find pictures of it.
