Another minor project while waiting for parts is to mount a compass on the dash. There's a platform for a surface mount compass formed into the fglass directly in front of the dash.

Unfortunately, after starting to cut, I found out the platform isn't hollow but is backed with plywood so I'll need to cut it out. To do this I either need to go from underneath through the ceiling in the head or remove the starboard side windshield. I started to remove the 4 screws holding the windshield to the deck, but the two larger screws on opposite sides seem to be threaded into nuts that are above the ceiling in the cuddy. Problem is now they are loose, but won't come off or tighten anymore.

Does anyone have experience working with the windshield on this boat or one like it? I really don't want to rip into the ceiling in the cuddy, but I need to remove and more importantly, tighten down the windshield again when I am finished.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well that was easy. It turns out that some of the decorative snaps that hold the carpet to the ceiling inside the cuddy are actually caps that cover nuts. Some of these are for the windshield bolts in question.
