Hey everyone, I have a 5.5 Evinrude Fisherman circa '62. Paid $100 bucks for it and it ran for 15 sec then seized. Got it unseized replaced the head gasket fired it up on maybe 5 pulls let it run for a minute maybe a minute and a half and noticed it was not pumping water. Shut it down. I have a manual but im not sure which type mine is as for pulling the lower end! Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Dean

You have to remove the powerhead to disconnect the shift linkage before you can drop the lower unit.

What's the model number? Also, check the coils. If they are original they need to be replaced.

1962 Evinrude 5.5 hp Fisherman.

Removing the powerhead is very easy. Just seven screws holding it on. You should also replace the o-ring (BRP 303347 or Sierra 18-7180) and cork washer (BRP 303355 or Sierra 18-2892) that sit on top of the driveshaft while you have the powerhead off. They are part of the lower crankcase seal and should be replaced whenever you do the impeller.

Follow the instructions for repairing a 5.5 hp at the following site. You don't have a pressure tank so don't worry about what he says about them.
