I had blown a cdi once on my outboard mercury 25hp and I just ordered a new one. The reason I broke it is, I think its because I forgot to attach the rectifier and left the wires dangling on the engine block. To try prevent this from happening again is it possible I remove the rectifier since I have no use for it? Do I just need to remove those coils under the flywheel which are attached to the stator ? Also can someone tell me what stator and ignition coils I need to buy that match this CDI model 114-5713.

Re: Remove rectifier on 25hp

From what I understand, a rectifier is required for the motor to run properly, but that information may be wrong. I do know that when my rectifier was blown, the motor would not run until I replaced it. The rectifier is what keeps your battery charged, and if your motor is an electric start I would think you would definitely need it.
