Just bought an old evinrude 2hp. Started it up and it was misting out the four telltale hole things. but it wasn't running well. noticed a small hole on the side just above and to the side of the propeller. felt some gunk in there so I took the lower unit off and cleaned it out.
Two questions. What does that hole do? It's not the four telltale holes, it's much lower on the leg and just above and to the side of the prop.
And second. I put everything back together but now i'm not getting any mist out of the telltale holes. ran across this page: http://www.fiberglassics.com/fiberg...lace/evinrude-1972-mate-2hp-not-pumping-water
and it says that some of these motors have a little plastic piece that needs to be lined up or else it won't pump. Is that true? The poster didn't actually say that all these old 2hp evinrudes have this plastic piece, just that lots of these old motors have it. I also didn't see any plastic piece.
What could have gone wrong just by taking the lower unit off?
Help!! Thank you.
