Removed my Alpha 1 (gen 1) outdrive today. The gimbal bearing came out too... Is this common?
I changed the gimbal bearing not too too long ago (last summer). Does the fact that it came out when I took the outdrive off mean that I maybe didn't install it correctly?
The driveshaft does has some light surface rust on it (not from a current water leak.. had to change the bellows last summer when i changed the gimbal bearing)... I'm thinking that maybe the fact that the driveshaft wasn't real clean may have something to do with it..
When I reinstall the driveshaft, I'm going to go ahead a put a new gimbal bearing in just in case I messed up the current one.
Any opinions?
