93bronco, the engine controls are different and by rights the new engine should have controls with it. and if you would supply US with the model # from both engines WE could tell you the length of these engines I'll be waiting
motor without controls, and a good price ,sure it isn't hot?????

93bronco...attitudes like yours really anger me. I rarely post a message on here but read just about everything and greatly value the on hands experience given freely by it's members. Again, the key word here is FREE!! Boating to me is a luxury and it can be expensive. The more knowledge I can gain without pulling out the wallet, the better. If there is something that I can offer, I will. That's what makes this board great. The protocol is to be patient, and POLITE! I would like to personally thank everyone on here for their invaluable advice and wish you a happy New Year. Thank You!

93bronco, it's pretty laid back here. Keep your posts together, and be patient. If you ask for free advice you really should not gripe about response time. Between work and the holidays, most of the guys here are pretty busy. I see by tracking down your other post(s) you have received some good info, and I hope it helps. Feel free to hang out here in the future, there is a wealth of info to be found. It has saved me a lot of grief and running around. Just remember: don't step on any toes! :D

Re: removed

give us the model numbers from each engine. and then we can tell you the length of each motor ,and then be able to tell you the height of transom you need to have on your boat.

Re: removed

BRG25, FOULED PLUG AND OTHERS I DEEPLY APOLOGIZE FOR MY IMPATIENCE AND LACK OF CONSIDERATION. JOHNKC THE BOAT IS 1988 BAYLINER COBRA 1800 SHALLOW V-HULL. THE MOTOR IS A 1988 125 USMARINE FORCE MODEL#1254X8. ALMOST 100+ THAT THE 99 MER/FORCE 120 HAS A 25INCH SHAFT. LAST I WAS TOLD TO CHECK LNTH ON THE 88 IS TO MEASURE THE TOP LIP OF TRANSOM BRACKET TO CAVITATION PLATE AND THAT WOULD GIVE ME SHAFT LNTH AND TO CHECK THE 99 THE SAME. THE THING WITH THE HULL IS THE TRANSOM MEASURES 18.5IN AND THEN 10INCHES BACK TO THE FRONT THE DRAIN PLUG DROPS ANOTHER 4.5IN. NOW WHERE IS THE CAVITATION PLATE SUPPOSED TO LINE UP WITH? THE BOTTOM OF THE 18.5IN OR BE LEVEL WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE DRAIN PLUG. IVE HEARD THAT BAYLINER USED BOTH 20&25IN SHAFTS WITH THIS KIND OF HULL. HELP????

Re: removed

I might be wrong, but the cavitation plate, for the most part, should be even with the lowest point of your hull. Up or down will make differences in hole shot, top end, ride, wake & stability.
Patience is a virtue that few have.....including me.
Good Luck ;)

Re: removed

thanx just had shoulder surgery and it had seemed like forever without a reply so i mistakenly jumped. but thats what ive been told that the cavitation plate should be, but the hull design is in ? does that 10in span to drain plug drop have anything to do with shaft lnth

Re: removed

your boat is considered a 25'' transom ,eventhough it doesn't mearure 25''exactly.so you need to use a 25''motor. That 10'' area is what is called a "STEP" in the hull, thus a "stepped hull " good luck.
