The Starcraft folks put me on to this group to figure out how to remove my 1989 Evinrude 50 hp from my Starcraft SuperSport. I have started with loosening the steering cable but then realized that there are a bunch of wires and hoses for gas and oil that I have no idea what to do with to take the sucker off. Got a suggestion on where to find answers or am I in over my head and just have the guys from the shop come and take care of this for me?

Remove the nut for steering cable and the link nut at the end of cable, pull up the steering link.
Pull apart the big red cable contact.
If power trim, disconnect and pull out the trim extension cable to remote as well.
Disconnect shift and throttle cable from engine.
Disconnect B+ battery cable at starter solenoid and battery ground at engine.
Pull off (sometimes better to cut) oil hose from tank at engine connector, plug the oil-hose with a screw and clamp to avoid oil-spill.
Take out the transom mounting bolts and lift off the engine.
Pull out the alarm cable (from oil-tank) and disconnect the ground from oil-tank.

First thing to do is make sure the battery in the boat is disconnected.

Depending on what kind of lifting equipment you have, it may sometimes help disconnecting battery and cables the last as it gives you the possibility to use the power-trim as 'lifting aid' together with support under the fin.

That engine has a lifting eye on it. A come-along (ratcheting block & tackle) works great. Sling it from a tree brance or fasten a bracket to the header of your garage door. The Motor weighs a bit over 200#

Well - Not much time to work on the boat today. Between coat shopping at Sears, basketball, soccer games and the contently ringing phone I had trouble getting traction. I did disconnect the wires and throttle controls so all that is left is to loosen and lift the engine off the transom. Sweet.

Thanks to you fine folks I am getting this stinker done.
