Is it a big deal to remove the bench set in an aluminium Vee hull? I was thinking it will make the floor replacement a lot easyier and also allow me to fill the seats with foam.
Any opinions?

Re: Removing bench seats in aluminum boat????

Thwart seats in most aluminum hulls are a very important part of hull structural rigidity.

If you plan to reinstall them I see no problem except that the hull will flex immediately when you take them out. If you put in a new floor with the hull out of line then reinstalling the seats might be a big problem.

Maybe if you tell us the make and model of the boat we can be more specific.

(201)

Hi All!
I have a 1975 Valco U12 "Swallow" deep v aluminum boat that I'm rehabbing. The plywood seats are in tough shape & must be replaced. I have not yet taken them off, though, cuz I also need to replace the flotation material. Yep, I got that old beaded white Styrofoam-looking stuff & its coming out all over the boat! I have stripped the interior of the hull and am shortly going to spray it w/Zinc Chromate self-etching primer. Here's the question: when I take the plywood seats off, will I find a closed aluminum box underneath? Or will it be open, such that I can see & easily replace the floatation? Thanks for your help. Steve
