Hi guys,
I have always had a bracket on my engines when removing them with my cherry picker but this Chrysler engine doesn't have one. So my question is where or what do you guys hook your hoist to to remove the engine? I have a special tool for the Mercury outboard and the Evinrude and Johnson motors have the factory bracket on them but this Chrysler has nothing. Do they also make a special tool to screw to the crankshaft like a Mercury or is there another way?

Thanks,

Nick

You can make a plate of 1/4 inch thick steel or aluminum. Drill three radial holes in it to match the threaded holes in the flywheel. Drill a center hole for a ring. Use three 1/4 X 20 bolts about 2-3 inches long.

OR if that's too much work a length of line -- not clothesline-- but 3/8 to 1/2 inch wrapped around the bottom cowl and passed theough the back of the steering yoke will also lift it. After all, it only weighs about 300 pounds. Problem with the rope is that the engine will be top heavy and want to tilt. You need to get fancy up top to prevent this.

Incidentally: Really old Chryslers had a lifting loop bolted to the top of the block just behind the flywheel.

My 1970 35 HP Chrysler was not a challenge to pull (as attached). If I had planned to pull the engine more than that once, an adapter off the flywheel would be worth the time. Personally, I would include the flywheel nut along with the three ?? bolts for more peace of mind (due to this being new to me). Most of all an adapter should be fairly simple to build.

Re: Removing Chrysler 135 from Boat

just something to consider..
found this awhile ago when looking for a way to fit a 120 hp chrysler onto a ski boat with just two of us..no proper lifting gear here

coincidently we've also done it with a 65 hp merc..not as nice as that one though

anywho, had no problems using this method but we did have the skeg sitting on soft ground, probably not a good idea on concrete, just make a plan before you start doing it,
we will have to do it again soon and will do it like that again...same with the 65hp,
wouldn't be much difference in weight between a 120 and 135

it probably is better if you put the right link in though...
LOL
