Removing engine from a velvet drive

All the serial tags are missing on both the engine (351) and the Velvet Drive so it's hard for me to give exact details...maybe I'll have to post some pictures. Anyways, all I need to do is pull the motor and replace the rear main seals, but I am wondering if this can be done without removing the trans at all. The boats an 88' Ski Nautique if that helps at all.

If the rear mounts are on the transmission to support it, yes. Just unbolt the flywheel cover from the engine with the velvet drive still attached. There is just a splined flex plate on the flywheel, no bolts to remove. Just be careful and don't bend the prop shaft..

That's why I like to take the whole thing out at once. Plus you can run the whole thing on the floor and make sure all is ok when the repairs are complete.
