I have a 86 Evinrude 140 - 4 Cyl VRO - IU need to pull it off to replace the transom. I have the shop manual but it does not show or tell how to remove the controls. I removed the gas connections at the tank.

Any suggestions for the other components? VRO? Can I just pop off the oil line at the bulb? There is also another cable (electrical maybe?) from VRO tank into cowling. There is a large diameter cable coming in the bottom left - looks like steering..just pop that off? It is not hydraulic is it? (my tilt/trim is internal)

i suggest you find a friend that knows a little more about this to help you. you have a fuel line, oil line, wiring harness, steering cable, shift and throttle cables all have to be removed. check the installation part of the manual, and reverse it.

I had to remove my 70 hp rude, and i had to disconnect the rods at the end of the cable on the actual linkage in the engine. I could not disconnect the cable from the linkage. But i know your engine is a lot different from mine.
