Removing Flywheel

This is probably a really stupid question, but when I go to remove the flywheel, it turns. How do I hold it still to get the nut and everything off?

Which engine?
There are different way, but Google:

Stuff soft rope in a cylinder (piston down) and turn the crank nut until it seizes up to break the nut free - reverse for torquing it back down (40lbs).

A good strap wrench also works great. OMC used them for years.

Only thing to remember is, if you use the rope trick, make sure the intake and exhaut ports are closed before stuffing the rope in.
