I have been soaking and tweaking the head bolts a little with hope of removing without breaking any.I need to see the piston to determine my problem with compression. Are the bolts closest to the sparkplug the correct ones??? Charlie

The bolts closest to the plugs are the water passage cover bolts. The head bolts are on the outside and set in more than the cover bolts.

charlie - If you are going to tinker with that motor you will find that you get many of the answers to your questions a lot faster if you get the shop manual - save some grief too.

The head bolts should not be too difficult to remove if they were torqued correctly (18-20 lbs.).

Get the manual. Remove the bolts in the proper order to prevent warping the head.
