Removing hull residue

I have acid washed my fiberglass Sunesta 232. Most of the algae and water stains have come off; however, there is a black residue on the port side that won't wash off. I tried muriatic and commercial hull cleaner and neither will remove it.

Any tricks?

Try a de-greaser... that might help (but probably not). It's worth a try. It almost sounds like you may be seeing the resin through the gelcoat. Pick a small patch (out of the normal line of sight) and try wet sanding. That'll tell you pdq.
