Well, I have started tearing down the '90 OMC 4.3 that overheated on the Columbia, but I can't for the life of me get the intake manifold off. There are big gobs of black sealent in the valley between the heads holding it down. Any tricks I could try?

The good news is the exhaust manifolds look good, although the flappers are fried.

pull all the bolts out of the manifold and go prying w/ big screwdrivers or a pry bar, they stick pretty good. also if you don't drain the block water will go into the Eng when the gaskets brake loose.

Thanks, I'll try that.
The water is drained from the block, but there was water in the cylinders after the overheat. I'm trying to pull the heads to get the bad news.

Payne,

Getting ready to do the same thing on my '88 4.3 OMC....what do you have to remove from the intake manifold before taking it off?

Thanks,
John

How do I remove the distributor? Do I have to have the #1 at TDC? How is this accomplished?

Thanks,
John
