I have a 1978 Johnson 115 and I need to pull it off the transom so I can work on the boat. What is the best way of doing this? On the motor there is a metal bracket sticking up with a hole in it which appears to be the lift point but I would like to be sure.

Thanks, Ranger

Yep, the bracket aft of the flywheel is the lift point......an engine hoist is the best device to use......if the motor is confined in a splashwell the steering cable usually needs to be removed as the motor is lifted.
