when i drained my lower unit oil, i noticed there was water in it so i decided to drop the lower unit and replace the seals and impeller. i removed the 4-9/16 screws on the sides ,the trim tab the 9/16 under there, and the 5/8.
i also removed the shifter screw behind the carb. the lower unit drops down
approx 1/8 of an inch. i lightly pryed and tried to wiggle it down. i have it down approx. 1/4, but it won't move any further. looking up top, it doesn't seem the shift rod has moved down any. i can move it back and forth with a screwdriver, so i know it is free. am i missing something? any ideas?
thanks.

Thats all the bolts there are, you may be having a driveshaft sticking problem, without enough grease, it can get lodged or even corroded enough to get stuck, be patient as to not force it too much.

remove spark plugs and move fly wheel back and forth. i have had to use wedges to get them apart. we have hung them upside down, about 1 inch off the floor. the power head is heavier than the lower, and soak it in PB Blaster thru the crack. believe me, this is not in the manual.

i don't want to remove the motor from the boat. i think i,ll make some wood wedges and try that. also does a water pump kit include seals for the shifter rod and drive shaft?
thanks,
