My 68 Oceanic has the previous boatowners selected name for the boat on the windshield across the top. I want to remove it, but am afraid to use any abrasives, or a razorblade on the plex glass. Need some ideas on how to do it. I am pretty sure it is a decal, it is not painted on (I dont think) seems it is adhered very well.
Thanks

Try heating it with a hair drier and peeling it off. Most stick on's adheasive gets soft when heated.

If you have a sign company around, they have a chemical that removes the glue from any sticker.Don't know what it is,I used it and it work out great.Just apply it with a rag.The people that I had made my boat name for the transom gave it to me at no cost.

The problem with Plexiglass and heat is that Plexi will heat up more than glass will..causing the glue to heat to both serfaces..

try using Zippo lighter fluid and a soft rag not to scratch the Plex.

if you do scratch the Plexiglass some..you dont have to worry..you can buff out the scratches using a fine compound (3m foam polishing compound works good with a new bonnet.. power buff..not hand or cheesy little orbital buffer you might use for your car..I mean a 8" polisher buff)

There are many products such as "Goo Gone" that
safely remove imbedded decals. Any hardware store
should carry it.

Be careful not to use "goof off". I found that stuff melts pretty much anything plastic.

As long as the windshield isn't curved, shouldn't you be able to peel it of using a razorblade in a paintscraper without scratching as long as you're very careful? Once you get it started, you can often lift the decal and slowly scrape as you go...Chemicals on plexiglass would make me nervous (but that's just my impression, no experience behind it).

Either way, prolly want to test your method in as inconspicuous a place on the windshield/ decal as possible before attacking the full thing.

It's called Sticker-Off. I have some but didn't need it. Can't say if it works.
